Enrobed in virgin flesh
he forms and fills
until,
wrapped in tissue,
this precious gift,
whose whisper issued light,
is borne down
from hidden place.
He crowns,
and,
still umbilically bound,
is violently pushed out
onto a patch of borrowed floor.
A moment's silence
then
he, with knit together lungs,
at last draws breath
from fetid air
and calls once more to life.
